It all starts with Mr. JOSHUA BAUMGARTENs extra very special story about Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and details of their indie rock life.. and Pitchfork, amongst others. As this story develops we learn a lot about His life, and about his affairs.. and guitar pedals. As to the morality of the saga.. we are still trying to figure that out but it has something to do with you should not joke about the holy spirit..
After that we hit the jizz jazz jackpot with a FLORIS BATES whammalicious sing-a-long song about masturbating on Christmas, alone and with the curtains closed. And we all know that was not snow Georgieboy Michael and his ‘special’ friend were playing in.. It was a pow-pow-pow-pow-powdered something something-metamdexamfetaminish substance. Because that is what it takes to write hit music. Wham bam thank you man!
Ferocious sonic sübersubsounding underground noise -and part time lizard collectors- duo THOSE FOREIGN KIDS sent over a box of chocolates, a used condom filled with eggnog and a burned down Christmas tree. When we figured this was a hidden message to check our Geertruida spam box, we found a nice and dandy song there, right next to the Viagra discount shop offerings of Mr. Juju Mambambo. It was a great song, so we incorporated it here. Why not?
Treasurehunters and synthcavedwellers we thought they were, and they are. But it turns out they sometimes actually come out of their holes to celebrate the joys of baby Jesus. We are talking about TREASURE OF GRUNDO. Last Christmas they got a new device from Santa, a vibrating machinery that is now safely stored away in that cave somewhere. It produces sounds never heard off. It’s the Grundo machine in full swing. First part of this song is a seventies softcore porn sample sort of. Think of hairy chests when you listen to it, and dripping stalactites of the synthcave where these boys dwell. These boys put butter on their instruments and rub them all the wrong ways.
SEXTON CREEPS.. Mmm, creepy yes. But actually these are the guys (and a girl) you DO want to hook up with in a dark ally. To snap your fingers in conjoined rhythm and perfectly moan and bark like crazy cats and drunk dogs do at the moon sometimes when they are scared or hungry, or horny. Hopefully you appreciate this song about GOD. The righteous dude. And X-mas bells.
Then a most disturbing message from mister DISTURBO himself. Synthdrones and banging drums set the record straight, Christmas ain’t no fun at all when you are not at least a little bit out of your mind. Disturbation seems to sneak up on people around these days. Suicide rates go up like magic flying kittens in a Chinese soup kitchen. Why? Don’t ask us! We are just a record label. But we provide solid entertainment, for all ages. Here you have a song that would do well with your grandma and the karaoke machine. Maybe it even counts as a political song. Just don’t stick your head in the turkeys ass and pretend like we did not warn you about the consequences.
BARNYARD TEA party boys know how to handle their swampy ancestral blue grass tunes. They also know their classics. When these guys pick up their banjos and guitars, and when they sing their golden voiced juicy angelic harmonies, heaven opens up for everyone. To take a free ride and mess the place up a little bit. Ain’t that exactly how we like it.

Hallo Geertruida volgelingen en liefhebbers van kerstmuziek,
We hebben wat vreselijk moois gemaakt. Een Kerst EP!
We hebben een aantal bands ongeveer een week gegeven om een nummer te maken voor Kerst. Alle bands hebben dit op een nogal zeer eigenzinnige manier opgepakt. Dit leek ons tevens de beste, en meest originele manier om het einde van het jaar te vieren en Kerstmis te eren. En originaliteit, dat is Geertruida in een notendop, natuurlijk. Misschien, dachten wij, is dit wel het begin van een zeer origineel bedachte Geertruida traditie. Ze zitten niet stil daar in Haarlem.
Een korte beschrijving van de muziek..
De inleiding is verzorgd door Haarlems eigen Joshua Baumgarten. Deze baardmans weet al jaren een flinke dosis goede muziek te injecteren in Haarlem en omgeving met zijn platform The Irrational Library. Hij presenteerde o.a. the Titty Twister feestjes op Lowlands, en hij runt zijn eigen tweedehands shop in Haarlem. Ook poëtisch talent kan deze fijne kerel niet ontzegd worden. Daarom kon hij niet ontbreken met zijn kerstverhaal over Jezus, and the Holy Spirit of Pitchfork.
Jizz jazz pop talent Floris Bates heeft een whammalicious-sing-a-long love song in elkaar geperst. Toy Boy George Michael zou trots zijn op deze Haarlemse antiheld. In zijn eentje ramde hij er een heel achtergrondkoor uit in tien minuten. We stonden erbij en keken ernaar. In 2014 gaan we een mooi album uitbrengen van deze underground goeroe, met zijn zalvende chorus galmen en zanglijsterstem.
De barrière tijgers van Those Foreign Kids konden natuurlijk ook niet achterblijven. Niet alleen hebben we eerder dit jaar hun scheurende plaat uitgebracht, nu brengen we jullie ook hun eigen visie op kerstmis. Natuurlijk wisten we al dat het een hoop herrie zou worden, maar dat is precies wat we hier wel lekker vinden bij Geertruida.
Treasure of Grundo doet ook nog eens een duit in het zakje. Een nummer dat klinkt als een beboterde jaren zeventig borstkas met krullend haar, zo eentje die vlekken achterlaat op de kersenhouten tafel waar je altijd je glas whisky op zet als je bewonderend naar je vinyl collectie aan het gluren bent. Je bent nog dagen aan het poetsen als je de intro van dit nummer hebt gehoord. Maar gelukkig begeven de Grundo jongens zich vlak voor zij het hellend vlak overgaan nog even op het terrein van het gladde ijs, waarmee zij eerder dit jaar al furore maakte in de underground synthesizer wereld scene dinges. Ga hun plaat Dýsantzú maar eens luisteren. Ook op ons label te vinden overigens.
Sexton Creeps is Groningen in een notendop: een bonte verzameling artistiekelingen. Natuurlijk konden zij niet worden vergeten op een Geertruida Kerst EP. We brachten aan het begin van dit jaar hun album Alex Hotel uit. Een vruchtbare samenwerking volgde, en nu hebben we één van hun klassiekers voorzien van een kerstjasje. Het inspelen van die kerstbellen, daar moet je strakke polsen voor hebben, respect voor al die Kerstmannen die nu staat weg te kwijnen in armzalige Amerikaanse malls. Ho Ho HOningen!
Als er iemand is die drones weet te waarderen dan is het wel president Obama. Maar Disturbo kan er ook wat van. Als die turbo knop weer eens aan gaat op de DX7 dan weten de muren niet meer waar ze heen moeten van de gekkigheid. Al met al, een fijn besnaarde kerel. En een puik stukje werk van Disturbo; die weet zelfs met Kerst nog het thema incest aan te halen. Kennelijk heeft hij de Bijbel goed gelezen!
Barnyard Tea heeft gekozen voor een nogal klassieke benadering. Maar deze jongens kennen hun classics. Al zakken deze kerels tot aan hun nekken weg in de moerassen van de bayous, geef ze een banjo en ze bespelen hem nog met hun tanden. Zelfs op de kerstmarkt in Kudelstaart voor een buslading Japanse toeristen weten deze goudgebekte mannen nog een romig toefje soul te vinden.
