Debut album "Smug" is Abel Natürlich's latest attempt at making something unpredictable yet satisfying. Its ten songs are mostly short and very dense, resulting in a restless theme park ride past the world’s biggest egos, including, but not limited to Abel’s own. With the album’s lyrical themes often used as an excuse to be more bombastic than ever, Smug can be seen as a spiritual successor to his former Cardiacs-inspired rock band Very Good Friends. However, this time it’s Abel doing almost everything himself in his bedroom. Some slickness was lost and a lot of personality was gained.
